Of ICE CREAM AND INSOMNIA

Ever wonder why some people diet and never lose weight?  The answer for some may be the hours they log in bed.

A study by researchers at Columbia University tested the theory that sleep deprivation could lead to weight gain.  Over a period of seven days, one group had a full nights sleep, while the other was only allowed four hours.

After just one week, the sleep deprived were consuming approximately 300 calories more every day.  Some of the extra calories came in the form of fast food but the hands-down favorite was ice cream.

While few of us sleep only 4 hours a night,  missing even one or two hours can affect appetite as well as memory, mood and concentration.  So if you can’t resist a bowl of “Cherry Garcia” or “Double Fudge Pecan Swirl” try staying in bed an extra hour.  Not a bad cure!
